Some of my dryers have carbon brushes so how can I tell when to change them?
If you bought the dryer in the last 6 to 12 months, you need to check them "NOW"! If you don't you will wear the carbon brushes down to the metal and ruin the motor, costing you maybe three times the repair cost.

Now that I have replaced the carbon brushes, how do I remember when to change them next?
For example, if the brushes were changed Jan. 1 on your cage dryer that is running most of the day, everyday of the week, then the average time to change them is approx. every six months. They should at least be checked at 6 month intervals. If you notice that they are looking pretty worn but, not quite time to change, then keep checking every month thereafter. It is a good idea to mark your calendar when you change them.

What if my dryer is used only for blow drying at the tub?
In that case the blow dryers don't run as often and they only need brush changing about once a year.

What's the difference between an expensive dryer and an inexpensive dryer?
There are usually a couple of reasons but, the main one you will notice is the motor! For example, a $100 dryer usually will have 1 motor and they don't usually last as long, and it will take you alot longer to dry big dogs. But, a $300-$350 dryer usually will have twice the power because they have 2 motors, which means faster drying time! Which most groomers prefer since that means more money in their pocket.

What maintenance can I do myself to avoid problems in the future?
It is a good idea to keep the hair from building up around the air intake. If you don't, it makes the motor have to work harder, and run hotter, which subsequently makes it wear out sooner.
