1] Measurements -
Make sure the equipment will fit in your shop before you commit to buy anything. Doing this before you place an order could save you hundreds of dollars in restocking fees and shipping costs should you try to return it.
2] What kind of animals - Dogs, Cats, Horses ?
Large Breed Dogs - Will require drying equipment that has at least 2 motors.
Small Breed Dogs & Cats -
Horses - Look for equipment that will provide a quiet operating environment. Ideally, look for versatility and of course, lightweight and portable equipment will be a lot better on your body in the long run.
3] How many Groomers will be working at your shop?
If your plans are to have more than 3 Groomers working at the same time then there is only one suggestion, ClipperVac by MDC Romani, Inc. The Model 1 can handle 1 to 3 Operators simultaneously and the Model 1A can accommodate up to 12 Operators. In our opinion, They are the best on the market for any multi-user situation, especially when limited space is an issue.
4] Will your floor plan accommodate everything you plan on having in your shop?
It is a good idea to make your floor plan easy to move through during the grooming process. This will reduce the chance of tripping over each other and/or animals etc.
5] Is the Electrical System wired to handle the load?
Some equipment on the market use a lot of electricity, and when the are running for 6-8 hours a day, that tends to put quite a strain on the system and the utility bill. You might want to consider calling on a Commercial Electrician to come and check everything over. You must have the proper breakers for the amps of your equipment and each piece of equipment should be on it's own outlet with breakers.
6] Where are the Outlets?
The electrical outlets will be best if they are located on the ceiling that way the cords will be out of the way. Drying equipment and the electrical plugs should be placed approximately 6 ft. from the floor, that way they are high enough for the average person to walk under and still be low enough to reach the on/off switches, etc.
